A glorious milestone in the history of the Festival. We are proud to welcome the principal dancers of English National Ballet in an exciting collaboration with the Norwegian jazz trumpeter Arve Henriksen, in an evening that blends ballet with contemporary dance, classical scores alongside innovative new music.
As well as showcasing the work of choreographers Kenneth MacMillan (Shostakovich), Balanchine (Stravinsky) and Derek Deane (Gershwin), we’re pairing the haunting, spiritual work of Estonian composer Arvo Pärt with Henriksen’s atmospheric music, collaborating for the first time with these dancers for this very special Abbey event. And don’t forget one of the most famous pas de deux ever – from Giselle – as well as the iconic solo Pavlova made famous, The Dying Swan, danced tonight in a fabulous, delicately feathered tutu designed by Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel. Don’t miss this unique highlight!

Dance: The Rhythm of Life
Stravinsky wrote there were two vital ingredients to music: melody and dance. There’s always plenty of tunefulness in our programming, and this year Bath International Music Festival has a special focus on the power of dance, particularly ballet: the romance and sweeping drama, the onstage glamour and backstage stories.
Mark your dance card, pick up your dancing shoes: this year is a treat!
