The super-cool sound of Booker T’s soulful Hammond B3 heads up Saturday night. After 40 years in the business, Booker T. Jones is still turning out unforgettable funk melodies and playing major festivals the world over. His sharp young quartet keep him on the edge, churning out modern classics every bit as memorable as Green Onions. Born in Tennessee, Booker T started work at the world famous Stax records, quickly rising up the ranks to lead the house band. With his Memphis Group cohorts Steve Cropper, Donald “Duck” Dunn and Al Jackson, Jones laid out the blueprint for the fabled Stax sound and reaped his own rewards with a string of hits that frequently crossed over to the pop charts.
