Creative Sound Factory
In the Autumn of 2009 Bath Festivals helped organise a new project called Creative Sound Factory, making new music across Bath and North East Somerset and Wiltshire. Some may remember the Creative Factory from a few years ago; this project built on that experience. Jointly run by Bath Festivals and Wiltshire Music Centre (WMC) in Bradford-on-Avon, the project offered 60 spaces on a week-long course in October half term with professional musicians including lead tutor Alex Lupo, the drummer with Babyhead and regular practitioners at WMC. The music created was performed at WMC on Saturday 31 October and at Chapel Arts Centre on Sunday 8 November. Keith Tippett, the internationally acclaimed jazz pianist, was invited along as a guest tutor on the course and helped strengthen the highly improvisational work. Sessions were open to 12–18 year olds with any level of instrumental experience – from the novice who has only had one lesson to those proficient in several instruments. The gigs were an enormous success and the project looks to continue growing from strength to strength. For full details about the course visit the website www.creativesoundfactory.org.uk
